Hi! I'm Siobhán
My name is Siobhán Aideen Kaufman. I am a self-taught oil paint artist from the Netherlands with a background in video game concept art. During my studies, I discovered my passion for oil paint, and after some practice, I decided to compete in a painting contest on Dutch television. I placed second and was named the best portrait painter of that season! This allowed me to start teaching oil paint portrait workshops at a high school, which I have been doing for over three years now.
My personal art style has changed drastically over the past years. It all began with regular portrait paintings, but I wanted my art to be more personal. I took the knowledge gained as a concept artist, mixed it with my love for horror, and brought my vision to life by applying oil painting techniques similar to the Old Masters. I've been sharing my creepy, scary, and weird art with the world and am thrilled to have found like-minded artists like you!
This is my first course of the series and I want to show you how to paint a realistic portrait without the horror elements. Course Content
The course has 8 modules for 4+ hours of learning and practicing. It also includes full-length artwork tutorials! You can pause and replay the videos as much as you want. The course is suitable for everyone, teens, adults and children because there is no explicit content. It would be best to take the course in order, because it will start from the basics to lessons at a more advanced level.

IN MY COURSE YOU WILL LEARN:
Introduction and Materials
In these first modules, you'll be introduced to the course and what you'll be learning. Module 1 covers the course content and goals, while Module 2 focuses on the essential materials you'll need for oil painting. You'll learn about different types of paints, mediums, solvents, and brushes, as well as how to care for your tools.
Using a Reference Image and Prepping the Canvas
In Module 3, you'll learn how to select and understand reference images, focusing on key elements like shadows and the structure of the face. Module 4 teaches you how to prep your canvas, ensuring it's ready for painting with techniques that create a smooth surface, followed by the grid method to help with proportions.
Underpainting and Mixing Color
Module 5 focuses on the importance of underpainting, where you'll lay down the foundational tones to define the lights and darks of your portrait. In Module 6, you’ll dive into color mixing, learning how to use a limited palette and organize your colors effectively for a harmonious portrait, with an example of the Zorn palette.
Color Block In and Sculpting the Face
In Module 7, you'll start blocking in colors, focusing on the overall shapes and values without worrying about details. The fat-over-lean method will help you build up layers of paint. In Module 8 I'll take you through my painting process. Showing you how I paint the eyes and achieve realistic skin tones.
